The Wo Ye Bra Sewing School
The Wo Ye Bra Sewing School is a twelve-month residential and non-residential vocational training program for up to 24 women per cohort. The school equips women of all ages with foundational sewing, production, and business skills that translate directly into income, dignity, and opportunity for their families.
Model Disruption: Women working in the informal economy often lack access to formalized training programs to learn a trade. Wo Ye Bra disrupts this gap by replacing informal, unpaid apprenticeships with a structured sewing school model—offering technical instruction, stipends, supportive services, and defined pathways to income and entrepreneurship.
Wraparound Support
Curriculum
Safe boarding, daily meals, transportation assistance, childcare support, basic healthcare access, wellness services, participant stipends, and family-centered support.
Sewing fundamentals, industrial machine operation, garment construction, quality control, export readiness, entrepreneurship, pricing, inventory, sales & marketing.
Upon graduation from sewing school, participants will be eligible to participant in the Artisan Readiness Training (ART) Program or launch their own sewing venture
Artisan Readiness Training Program (ART)
The Artisan Readiness Training (ART) Program is Wo Ye Bra’s flagship workforce development program. ART is a 6-month apprenticeship that transforms women with little to no experience into skilled seamstresses, designers, and creative entrepreneurs.
The ART Program ensures that women not only learn technical craft but also gain real-world business insight and mentorship — preparing them to move beyond training and become master seamstresses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders in their own right. Delivered through the Wo Ye Bra Workshop—a cut-make-trim manufacturing facility in Accra—the program follows a clear progression designed from learning to livelihood:
Design
Participants build technical sewing expertise, product design capability, and artisan craftsmanship.
Create
Artisans produce high-quality bags, jewelry, household and pet accessories, and uniforms for market-ready use.
Launch
Graduates receive business training, paid apprenticeship experience, and resources to launch their ventures.
We pay our artisans over 300% above Ghana’s national daily minimum wage—plus monthly bonuses that bring their total earnings to more than 4 times the national minimum wage.
